VERSE Work/Shop is pleased to present Talk Shop 6.0, a dynamic combination of work by six Hudson Valley artists includes a range from traditional fresco/seccco paintings, sculptures, assemblages to works in neon. Artist Ruby Palmer (Rhinecliff), who exhibited in a previous Talk Shop show, has reversed her role to curate this vibrant collection, writes:
“For Talk Shop 6.0, I wanted to bring the feeling of that first thrill of discovery when entering another artist’s studio, the experience of your eye being drawn into and around a work, which then leads to another, and so on.
I’ve chosen work that I like, work that is born from imagination rather than direct observation, and work that I felt would be an interesting contrast with the other work I chose. The process was about opening my own mind and allowing impulses and associations to take charge, rather than any formal agenda.
I feel a pleasing curiosity coming from this group, a playful yet sincere intent. I’m impressed by the risk in allowing a whisper of an idea to sail spectacularly. At times wildly different from one another, certain combinations start to have conversations that suddenly make perfect sense. The process of making and logic is as much part of the piece as the final resting point. These are, for the most part, experiments that likely have no beginning sketch, that evolve out of 'what-ifs’. I invite you to ask questions of the work and delve into its history. Things to think about, and, possibly, to live with, are so important in navigating uncertainty. The work is scaled for the home, for living with, radiating humor, joy, and compassion.”
