Executive Director

Agatha Bacelar joined the Red Hook Chamber of Commerce as Executive Director in the summer of 2022. Alongside her Chamber work, Agatha works part-time at Bard College’s Center for Civic Engagement.

Prior to moving to Red Hook from San Francisco, Agatha led field operations for Curative, one of the largest COVID-19 testing and vaccination companies in the US. Founded at the start of 2020, the company processed 21 million PCR tests in its first year of operation. Agatha worked with cities, counties, and public health departments to launch thousands of testing and vaccine sites across the country.

In the past, Agatha spent five years at Emerson Collective, where she was their first creative and documentary filmmaker. She spent time with organizations working on education, immigration, criminal justice, and the environment, including the Inside Out Project, Hope Credit Union, and the Equal Justice Initiative.

Agatha was also a founding member of Democracy Earth, a non-profit delivering Universal Basic Income on the Ethereum blockchain.

Her experience at Emerson Collective and Democracy Earth inspired her to run for office. In the 2020 election, she (unsuccessfully yet energetically) challenged a 33-year incumbent for the U.S. House seat in San Francisco, Nancy Pelosi.

Agatha is Brazilian-American and grew up in Miami, FL. She attended German international schools and then studied Product Design at Stanford University. At Stanford, she co-founded one of the country’s first collegiate jump rope teams and competed nationally.

She now lives in Upper Red Hook with her partner, Paul. They are amateur yet ambitious gardeners, and are expecting their first child in the spring.
